Turkey University: One-on-One Turkey Calling Instruction

One of the most common questions we get is:

“Can I come to the shop and get some one-on-one help with my calling?”

The answer is yes.

Watching videos on social media is a great place to start, but nothing compares to sitting down face-to-face and working through your calling with someone who can hear exactly what you’re doing and help you make corrections on the spot.

At HGC University, you’ll spend time in the Houndstooth Game Calls shop working one-on-one with Lyle Gilbert. Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been calling for years, your session will focus on the fundamentals that help you become a more confident, realistic, and effective turkey caller.

Mouth Call Instruction

If mouth calls are giving you trouble, we’ll work through the details that matter most, including proper placement, air control, tongue pressure, and calling technique.

We’ll also use our call press to help determine which cut and style of mouth call fits you best, so you’re not fighting a call that doesn’t work for you.

Friction Call Instruction

Need help with pot calls or other friction calls? We’ll go through the friction calls we build and cover proper conditioning, maintenance, striker control, and how to get the most realistic sounds from each call.

Some hunters may only need a few small adjustments. Others may be starting from scratch. Either way, every lesson is tailored to your skill level, your calling style, and the areas where you need the most help.

We can honestly say that everyone who has walked out of the shop after a lesson has left a better caller than when they walked in. That’s the advantage of personal, hands-on instruction.

Lesson Details

• Available: June 1 through November 1, during our offseason
• Location: Houndstooth Game Calls shop
• Session length: Approximately 1 to 1½ hours
• Instruction includes: Mouth calls, friction calls, call fit, technique, maintenance, and personalized troubleshooting

We’ll provide Houndstooth mouth calls for use during your lesson, but please bring any mouth calls and friction calls you already own. This allows us to help you get the most out of the calls you’re already carrying in your vest.

• One Person Session: $150
• Father & Son / Father & Daughter Session: $200

A 50% deposit is required to reserve your lesson.
